In addition to my summer social skills camp, I run weekly social skills groups for kids of all ages:
All Groups Resume on Monday 1/30 and meet weekly (16) weeks until 5/21 (except 2/20 & 4/9) at my Westside Office at 107 West 82nd Street, LL #106 / corner Columbus Ave
Children’s Co-ed Social Skills Group, Ages 6-12, Mondays 5-6pm – This group follows a Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT) Model which includes didactic instruction followed by demonstration, role-plays, games, drawing, discussion, and sharing of experiences. Specific skills are taught each week (listening, sharing, joining a game, anger management, making conversation) and children earn/lose points towards an in-group reward. Parents are given weekly handouts outlining the skills being taught and how to generalize to home and school. We focus on overcoming barriers to socialization, such as anxiety, assertiveness, impulsiveness, expressing feelings, problem-solving, bullying, anger, and self-esteem. Children are divided into subgroups based on age and developmental level.
Teen Co-ed Socialization Groups: Ages 12-14, Mondays 6-7pm / Ages 15-19, Mondays 7-8pm – These groups follows a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and relationship-based model whereby members can discuss specific social skills and then practice those skills in the moment while receiving feedback from peers. We address issues common to teens, such as shyness, peer pressure, bullying, relationships (peer, sibling, and parent), decision making, experimentation with sex & substances, academic pressure, social problem-solving, communication, and self-esteem.
PARENT TRAINING: Parent training is offered to teach parents skills to improve his/her child’s behavior at home and in public. This is optional but strongly recommended as it will help your child derive maximum benefit from the weekly social skills groups. Topics covered will be: effective communication, positive attention, active ignoring, behavior plans, daily report cards (DRC), time-out, consequences, and how to enhance social skills acquisition. There will be handouts, instruction, role plays, discussion, and Q/A.
GROUP LOCATION: 107 West 82nd St, Lower Level Professional Suite #106 (Corner Columbus Ave)
