Social Skills Training for Children & Adolescents NYC
The Power of the Group
We are members of many groups, but none as influential as our family. Childhood experiences and interactions shape our personality, emotional development, and socialization. Developmental delays, trauma, neglect, and/or abuse can negatively impact how we view ourselves and interact with others.
While individual psychotherapy has much to offer, certain social, interpersonal, and/or emotional difficulties can only be addressed within a therapeutic group experience.
Drawing from years of group therapy experience, we offers several socialization groups for children and pre-teens. These groups meet once per week, for 60 minutes. Most group members also receive individual therapy, either from us or an outside therapist.
Social Skills Training Groups for Children (ages 5-6, 7-8 & 9-11)
These groups follow a Cognitive-Behavioral (CBT) model which includes didactic instruction followed by role-plays, games, drawing, discussion, and sharing of experiences. Goals are set each group and children earn/lose points towards a reward. These groups focus on overcoming barriers to socialization, such as anxiety, assertiveness, impulsiveness, expressing feelings, problem-solving, bullying, anger, and self-esteem. These groups are appropriate for children with symptoms or a diagnosis of: ADHD, LD, ODD, anger, Asperger’s, PDD-NOS, anxiety, or depression. Parents meet separately to reinforce skill acquisition. The groups meet weekly at the Westside Office for the entire school year. More info here.

Relationship & Social Skills Training for Pre-Teens (ages 12-14)
This group follows a CBT and relationship-based model whereby pre-teens discuss specific social skills and then practice those skills in the moment while receiving feedback from peers. This group addresses issues common to adolescents, such as peer pressure, bullying, relationships (peer, sibling, and parent), decision making, academic pressure, social problem-solving, communication, and self-esteem. Adolescents in this group might have symptoms or a diagnosis of: ADHD, Learning Disabilities, Anxiety, or Depression. The group meets weekly for the entire school year at the Westside Office.
Social Skills Summer Treatment Camp (ages 6-12) – “Friendship Camp”
Big Apple Day Program (BADP) is a Manhattan co-ed 6-week summer day camp for children ages 6-12 with mild-to-moderate social-emotional difficulties, such as ADHD, Asperger’s, PDD-NOS, Anxiety, and Learning Difficulties.
